My fourth project at SLAC was to develop the initial one-dimensional theoretical model for an electron accelerator. Valery took me on as his student for several months as we developed the model.

We were given a top-level specification for the beam, and everything else was left to us as indeterminate paramter space. Thus, we needed to explore multiple possibilities for the design.

We applied one-dimensional models of electron linacs in the desired parameter space.

Valery went on to finish the 3D simulations and built the linac successfully.
